Networking – your lifeline!

When I first joined a networking group it was with one intention only – I needed clients! Little did I know that networking really would be a lifeline to me. A few months ago I wrote an article about how we had used the services of 15 networkers to help us in the move to the new offices, they all took stress away from me with the move. Over the years I have seen people rally round when a member has been taken ill, family tragedies, near business collapses, desperate need of new clients, the network stick together like an extended family casting their net of support. Recently Mark Northall, Regional Leader of 4 Networking did his 1000th meeting and brought out a new 4sight to commemorate it, in the 4sight he talks about the fact he has more reliable friends now than at any other time in his life, and that is all down to networking. Whichever network you are a part of, whether it is industry specific like the Property Investors Network, a one seat policy like BoB Club, or an open network like 4Networking, they will all have people that can help you, you just have to open up to them and ask for help! There are a few rules though……

  1. Make sure you are happy to help and support back
  2. Don’t sell at people in your network – it just doesn’t work
  3. People can only help you if you are totally honest with them, if you only tell them half the information they can’t give you the support you need

So next time you are at a network meeting or invited to one, just look around the room, you’re not just looking at people who may spend money with you – there’s a good chance that your future lifeline may well be sitting in that room.
